Old Louisville is one of the most well-preserved collections of Victorian style homes in the country. Once the place where the wealthiest of Kentuckians lived, it saw its decline as technology advanced and having servants to run the large homes became more expensive and less practical.
The homes and neighborhood as a whole fell into disrepair for decades. In the 70s, local activists began restoring these old, derelict homes to their former glory. What has developed since is a vibrant, eclectic and beautiful neighborhood that many different people call their home. It's full of boutique shops, restaurants, and art galleries.
Don't take a trip to Louisville without visiting this amazing part of the city.
